About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks in various areas, including general rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and food courts, as well as grounds care. The position also requires good customer relations and the ability to perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work.

Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and walls.
Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using appropriate germicidal solutions and tools.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the appropriate techniques, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dusting and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting for cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, and process dirty trays through the washer.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
Maintain positive customer relations by being friendly, courteous, and helpful, and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
