About The Position

General cleaners are responsible for the overall cleanliness of the campus, including offices, resident rooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, clinics, stairwells, and public areas like dining rooms and waiting areas. The role requires maintaining a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and visitors, with a polished and professional demeanor. Duties involve cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting all areas.

Requirements

  • Must be polished and have a professional demeanor.
  • Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, reach.
  • Requires moderate level of verbal communication skills to interact with patients, students & staff, often under stressful situations.
  • Requires technical knowledge of general & specialized cleaning procedures & products.
  • Must be able to lift more than 30lbs several times per shift (e.g., waste & soiled laundry handling, trash handling).
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions in the process of dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and hand scrubbing.
  • Must be able to work above and below waist with repetitive motion.
  • Must be able to operate & control equipment such as vacuums.
  • Work involves pulling and pushing, carrying weight up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending, and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to above head.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English/Spanish to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and dusting assigned areas using checklists/duty lists.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, counters, showers, bathtubs, patient areas, and scrubbing walls.
  • Dusting, cleaning, and vacuuming furniture, blinds, windows, shades, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings using appropriate cleaning supplies.
  • Maintaining the appropriate level of sanitary and cleaning supplies for assigned areas.
  • Maintaining assigned equipment in good working condition.
  • Cleaning interior glass and dusting/polishing furniture.
  • Disinfecting and maintaining ice machines and water fountains, including stainless steel surfaces on water fountains, elevators, and restrooms.
  • Collecting and removing trash from buildings daily.
  • Replacing sharps containers, transporting trash, and removing empty boxes.
  • Picking up and disposing of hazardous-regulated-infectious waste as required.
  • Disinfecting patient, student, and staff area restrooms, vanity areas, showers, and locker rooms.
  • Disinfecting utility rooms and waiting rooms, keeping all in orderly condition.
  • Maintaining a clean environment on campus and in campus offices by sweeping and mopping tile floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting light shields, baseboards, ledges, and windowsills.
  • Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting high-touch items such as tabletops, desktops, chairs, exterior wash stations, handles, knobs, and light switches on an ongoing basis with disinfecting wipes.
  • Monitoring and restocking restroom dispensers (hand towels, toilet paper, hand soap, sanitary napkins).
  • Completing all daily work orders as scheduled.
  • Participating in special projects and accepting new projects when assigned.
  • Following all housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrating awareness of health and safety at work and performing safely.
  • Assisting with office or room special cleaning as needed.
  • Assisting in project work if needed and/or assigned by department leadership.
  • Being available for 'on call' duties for flood relief and/or other immediate relief efforts.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all materials handled within the campus and company.
  • Demonstrating responsibility and accountability through effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Complying with campus and departmental policies regarding the dress code.
  • Being mindful of slip, trip, or fall hazards.
  • Labeling chemicals correctly.
  • Using appropriate cleaning supplies according to departmental procedures.
  • Using safe and proper cleaning procedures to prepare patient areas and other assigned areas in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keeping housekeeping closets and equipment in the area of responsibility clean and in order.
  • Maintaining daily records of all work performed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures (Daily checklist/duty list).
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to perform tasks with due consideration for patients in the vicinity.
  • Working under close supervision performing standardized tasks.
  • Receiving assignments, assembling needed materials and supplies, loading service carts, and transporting them.
  • Enhancing professional growth and development through in-service and other educational training.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all materials handled within the campus/company as well as the proper release of information.
  • Reporting any discrepancies or deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by department management deemed operationally necessary.
  • Representing Encompass in a positive manner; following oral instructions, being pleasant, tactful, courteous, and cooperative with supervisors, co-workers, residents, and client staff.
  • Accomplishing all responsibilities without supervision or other employee assistance after the training period is completed and doing so without injury.
  • Fully understanding and completing all In-Services.
  • Clocking in and out and adhering to the attendance policy.
