About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with both hands and arms (5-35 lbs force), climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, working counter-clockwise around the room and cleaning surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans).
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
Empty trash cans, removing and replacing liners if liquid is present, and wiping down the can.
Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead, starting at the back of the room and using an "S" stroke. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean the mophead with a counter brush and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters inside and out, checking for cobwebs and high dusting window areas at least twice a week, and checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
Conduct self-inspections after completing room cleaning, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
Practice good customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring them to the appropriate person, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working and speaking quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
