About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering, overhead reaching, and requiring sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilets (including the inside with a Johnnie Mop), and check/refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture and in restrooms, working from the back of the room towards the door.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, check for cobwebs/high dust window areas at least twice a week, and check corners and edges for dirt and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom and clean using a tray power washer. Stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, sanitize floors starting at the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
