About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including general rooms, bathrooms, common areas, food courts, and grounds care, as well as customer relations and other assigned duties.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Good vision, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination, for cleaning tasks and safety standards.
Ability to use cleaning equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height using a treated high duster.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, refilling as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the appropriate techniques and equipment.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and high dusting public areas.
Clean and spot mop main hallways, ensuring glass is cleaned, planters are clean, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, including cleaning trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
Visually inspect and ensure furniture placement is correct after cleaning.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including high dusting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, auto scrubbing, buffing) and carpet care (extraction, bonneting).
Be courteous at all times.
