About The Position

KATU/KUNP is seeking a motivated, energetic, creative, and aggressive General Assignment Reporter/Weekend Weather Anchor. This role involves presenting weekend weather forecasts and reporting three days a week. The ideal candidate will be able to develop story ideas, gather information, write effectively, and possess a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude. Excellent live shot skills and the ability to thrive on breaking stories are essential. This position is responsible for the content of weather casts on-air and across digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
  • Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills are a must
  • Must be able to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to tell memorable and meaningful stories, we value visual and compelling storytelling, both in weathercasts and as a reporter
  • Ability to demonstrate experience with active and visual live shots
  • In Depth Knowledge of forecasting
  • Sharp news judgement and exceptional writing skills
  • Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks
  • 2 years’ experience in weather presentation and reporting preferred
  • 2+ years of experience as a Reporter

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology is welcomed, however, we will accept an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, shoot, write and edit meaningful stories for station’s newscast that can be used across multiple platforms
  • Provide news on-air as directed from the news management team
  • Engaging with local community members
  • Forecasting, Producing and Presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
  • Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
  • Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories
  • Make public appearances on behalf of the station
  • Reviewing material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
  • Work closely with all members of the news team, which would include Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Directors etc..
