About The Position

The Connection/News-Herald/Loudon County Magazine is seeking a dynamic, career-oriented General Assignment Reporter/Staff Writer to join their award-winning News Team. This position involves daily news coverage of the county and its surrounding areas, including local businesses and economic developments. The role requires a candidate with a background or strong interest in covering local politics and a willingness to cover other beats as needed. The ideal candidate will be eager to tell large-scale stories with visual and digital components, as well as personal stories that resonate with readers. The position is full-time with weeknight and weekend assignments, and the candidate must be able to accept editorial feedback.

Experience writing enterprise and long-form content.
Experience telling personal stories.
Experience covering news on social media platforms.
Some experience with photography, video and/or design.
Familiarity with AP style.
Photography, social media and content management system experience.

Responsibilities

Provide daily news coverage of the county and its surrounding areas.
Cover local businesses and economic developments.
Cover local politics.
Pitch in and cover stories from other beats as needed.
Tell large-scale stories that include visual and digital components.
Tell personal stories that touch the hearts and lives of others.
Perform job duties and conduct self in accordance with the company's core values.
Take effective notes and draft organized news articles.
Initiate and nurture effective, professional relationships with sources in the community.
Accept instruction and editing suggestions from editors.
