About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a General Activities Therapist to plan, conduct, implement, and monitor various activities for inmates. This role involves serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team, observing participants, providing instruction, preparing documentation, and performing security functions as required. The position also requires participation in meetings and training sessions, maintaining work areas, and managing supplies and equipment. The department's mission is to reduce recidivism through rehabilitative treatment and programming in a safe, secure, and humane correctional environment.

Requirements

  • 30 mos. exp. with coaching, personal training, &/or fitness instruction or 30 mos. exp. providing work direction to incarcerated persons & training &/or development.
  • Completion of associate degree in recreation; 12 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation.
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in recreation; 6 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation.
  • 6 mos. exp. as General Activities Therapist 1, 44211.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, conducts, implements and monitors general recreation, personal development, structured therapeutic and entertainment activities for inmates.
  • Serves as member of interdisciplinary team and analyzes, assesses, evaluates, defines and recommends group and/or individual treatment goals and activities.
  • Observes participants during activities.
  • Serves in instructional capacity for inmates.
  • Prepares and maintains work related documentation, including reports for treatment team, documentation of recreational program activities, statistical records, supply and equipment requisitions, production records, inventory records, and weekly activity schedules.
  • Performs security functions as required.
  • Participates and attends meetings, conferences and/or training sessions.
  • Maintains clean, safe and functioning work areas.
  • Responsible for storage, issuance and maintenance of supplies; picks up and delivers productions goods.
  • Performs job and fixture set-up.
  • Relieves supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
