About The Position

The position is responsible for managing the day-to-day general accounting activities of the division. This includes general accounting, accruals, financial reporting and general ledger activity. Will require interfacing between all departments of the division, divisional headquarters and the corporate office. Directs financial activities of the organization by performing the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Responsible for all financial accounting activity performed on the business system including the impact of transactions, month-end and year-end closings, maintenance of master file databases including G/L, A/P, Treasury and A/R. Responsible for the operational financial reporting of the NAFTA business units of Darling International regarding; monthly reporting including the HFM financial reporting. Analyze monthly financial results. Responsible for the general ledger account analysis of all accounts including various accruals, prepaid and expense accounts. Responsible for the preparation and approval of monthly and quarterly SOX control documentation. Responsible for the annual allocation of management fees across the region. Coordinate with the tax department on monthly and ad hoc data requests. Preparation of month-end journal entries. Assist in the fulfillment of annual SOX and Financial audit requests (internal and external audits) Assist in monthly analysis of operating expenses versus budgets. Assist in the development of the quarterly forecast and annual budget. Initiate payments of various commissions and rebates on monthly basis or as needed. Be proficient and perform as a Super Key User in JDE for the G/L module. Follows all food safety procedures and practices to promote our food safety culture. Assist in other projects as assigned. This position will have three direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills in order to effectively interact with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles, such as GAAP and internal control / SOX.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply business management principles including strategic planning, personnel management and development and departmental budgeting.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Ability to identify and analyze relevant information to draw conclusions and make informed judgments.
  • Ability to develop systems and methods of operation in order to ensure proper financial reporting.
  • Time management skills including ability to prioritize and organize work to maximize efficiency.
  • Knowledge of personnel management principles, including performance management and coaching.
  • Strong computer spreadsheet modeling and word processing skills (i.e. MS Office).
  • Demonstrate initiative with attention to detail, have a high computer aptitude and be inquisitive.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of JDE Accounting software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

  • CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
