About The Position

Wonderful College Prep Academy is hiring a part-time, in-person GEAR UP Tutor focused on math at Sanger High School in Sanger, California. Tutors support student cohorts throughout their high school years and provide academic assistance to students. The assignment is approximately 24 hours per week, scheduled Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Workdays align with the Sanger Unified School District and Wonderful College Prep Academy calendars. The position reports to the GEAR UP Coordinator in Sanger, California.

GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III grant administered through a partnership involving Wonderful College Prep Academy and Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts. The program serves cohorts of students from high-poverty schools, beginning by seventh grade, with the aim of preparing them to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Services continue through high school and the students’ first year of college.

Requirements

• Be a college graduate or be enrolled in college and have completed freshman English and college math (Algebra II).
• At least one year of tutoring experience.
• Be an eager, flexible learner and problem solver who is comfortable taking initiative.
• Be a self-starter with an exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management.
• Have outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Be able to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one or small-group tutoring to students in classrooms, with a focus on math.
• Collaborate with and support GEAR UP staff.
• Work directly with students to provide academic support services, including tutoring, help completing forms, and workshop support.
• Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing GEAR UP grant activities.
• Follow school and GEAR UP protocols and procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
