About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Gastroenterologist. The role involves inpatient, outpatient, and call coverage at a Level II trauma center. Typical cases include EGD, Colonoscopies, EUS, and ERCP. The position is part-time, requiring 14 days of coverage per month, with a minimum of 7 days per month. The schedule includes weekday coverage with rounding and outpatient procedures, along with on-call duties throughout the day and evening. Weekend coverage involves 24-hour call and inpatient rounding. APPs handle first call from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. The EMR system used is EPIC. Credentialing takes approximately 60 days.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Gastroenterology experience or equivalent
  • NPDB self-query required to accompany initial presentation
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

  • Fellowship training in Gastroenterology (may be preferred depending on the position)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of system disorders in adults and potentially children (depending on the position)
  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, CT scans and blood tests
  • Perform procedures to diagnose and treat digestive conditions (depending on the scope of practice)
  • Develop and implement treatment plans
  • Manage chronic digestive conditions and provide ongoing patient care
  • Collaborate with other specialists when needed to ensure coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients
  • Stay current on the latest advancements in specialty through continuing education
