About The Position

The Gas Technician serves as a First Responder for odor of gas complaints, CO complaints, and pipeline emergencies. This role involves performing pressure tests, executing work orders for various service needs, and conducting compliance-related tasks such as leak surveys, regulator inspections, and line patrols. The technician is also responsible for systems maintenance, including right-of-way upkeep, painting, and installing line markers. This is an individual contributor role focused on supporting team goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to identify and respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions.

  • Proficient in using computers and common software applications, including Microsoft Office.

  • Works collaboratively with other departments to achieve operational goals.
  • Familiar with relevant local, state, and federal regulations and codes.
  • Ability to read and understand operational maps.
  • Must possess and maintain a class D driver’s license with medical card and have minimal driving infractions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work on roofs or elevated surfaces.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl to access confined spaces.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking are required.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to use hand tools and power tools with precision.
  • Must have sufficient vision to read gauges, meters, blueprints, and operate equipment safely.
  • Able to hear warning signals, communicate with team members, and detect abnormal equipment sounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be physically able to drive a service vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required testing and DOT standards.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of experience in the natural gas industry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a First Responder for odor of gas complaints, CO complaints, and pipeline emergencies.
  • Accurately perform pressure tests using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Perform work orders including leak calls, odor complaints, final bills, meter installs, service turn on/off, and transfers of service.
  • Perform compliance-related tasks such as leak surveys, regulator & relief inspections, valve operation, cathodic inspections, and line patrols.
  • Perform systems maintenance and upkeep, including mowing and trimming right of ways, painting above ground appurtenances, installing line markers, and locating and completing necessary documentation.
