Gas Supply Manager

Nscale•Houston, TX
•$100,000 - $160,000

About The Position

Nscale is seeking a Gas Supply Manager based in Houston to develop and manage the natural gas management and trading strategy for its power and energy assets, beginning with the Monarch campus in West Virginia and expanding to other sites with gas-fired generation. The role determines how each plant is supplied, including producer mix, contract structures, transportation and balancing services, and manages suppliers and consultants responsible for daily scheduling and nominations. The position initially reports to the SVP, Development and is expected to report to the Director of Midstream Assets & Fuel Supply once that role is established. Success is measured by security of supply and delivered cost at each site. The manager works with producers, interstate pipelines, and consultants on supply options, transportation, scheduling, market analysis, and risk. As the portfolio grows, the manager will build and lead the supporting team. Nscale’s Power & Energy group develops, builds, and operates fuel supply and behind-the-meter generation for its data centre campuses. At Monarch, the group is delivering a natural gas pipeline system and an on-site natural gas power plant for a gigawatt-scale AI data centre campus.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in natural gas supply, trading, origination, or fuel management for a utility, generator, marketer, or producer, including responsibility for a supply portfolio.
  • Experience negotiating gas supply and transportation agreements directly with producers, marketers, and interstate pipelines.
  • Experience managing third-party schedulers, agents, or consultants, or leading a scheduling and settlement function.
  • Strong working knowledge of gas supply contract structures, including NAESB base contracts and special provisions; pipeline tariffs; firm and interruptible transportation; interconnect agreements; and imbalance and penalty provisions.
  • Understanding of scheduling and nomination mechanics, balancing, and settlement sufficient to establish service levels and audit suppliers.
  • Familiarity with hedging instruments, basis and price risk, and gas supply credit terms.
  • Commercial negotiation skills and ability to build durable relationships with producers and pipelines.
  • Organizational and analytical skills to manage a portfolio, budget, and counterparties across multiple sites with clear reporting.
  • Ability to build and lead a small team and hold suppliers accountable for their commitments.
  • Based in Houston and able to travel regularly to Nscale sites and counterparties.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supplying gas to power plants or other large, variable industrial loads, ideally across more than one site or region.
  • Knowledge of the Appalachian Basin and interstate pipelines serving West Virginia and Ohio; familiarity with other North American gas markets is a plus.

  • Model and report delivered gas costs at each site and identify and execute cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Work with Commercial and Finance on hedging execution, fuel budgets, and fuel cost treatment under power contracts.
  • Assess gas supply for new sites, including producers, pipelines, interconnect options, indicative costs, and risks.
  • Maintain a broad base of supply options by working with producers and marketers in the Appalachian Basin and other relevant regions; negotiate and manage supply agreements, baseload and term purchases, and spot and swing arrangements.

  • Prepare supply, transportation, and operating arrangements for first gas and plant commissioning; maintain a 24/7 supplier escalation path for supply disruptions.
  • Report portfolio supply position, risks, and cost performance to Power & Energy leadership.
