About The Position

The Gas Supply Manager is responsible for overseeing the short and long-term natural gas supply needs for multiple gas utilities and customers in our operating area. The Gas Supply Manager leads UPL's gas procurement strategy and manages relationships with natural gas marketers, local producers, local distribution companies, and interstate pipeline companies to secure reliable and cost-effective gas supplies. The Gas Supply Manager plays a critical role in forecasting demand, managing transportation and storage assets, evaluating market conditions, and ensuring customers receive safe and reliable natural gas services across UPL's systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas procurement, natural gas operations, energy markets, or a related utility industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supply portfolios, transportation assets, and supplier relationships.
  • Strong understanding of natural gas markets, pipeline operations, storage management, and utility supply planning.
  • Experience working with large datasets and advanced Excel reporting required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Energy Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Accounting, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the gas procurement and accounting team to meet monthly and seasonal supply needs.
  • Develop gas purchasing strategies based on market conditions and forecasts.
  • Direct natural gas supply procurement during bid week for monthly supply needs, leveraging NYMEX & IFERC pricing indices to optimize supply costs, manage risk, and ensure reliability.
  • Analyze usage data and forecasts to prepare bids and evaluate suppliers.
  • Partner with Operations and Business Development on supply needs for growth projects.
  • Review and approve gas purchase transaction confirmations.
  • Manage relationships with pipelines, storage providers, producers, and marketers.
  • Coordinate supply and transportation agreements to ensure compliance and reliability.
  • Optimize storage strategies to maximize value and reliability.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure the best supply options.
  • Monitor gas usage, costs, and market trends to support cost-effective supply planning.
  • Prepare monthly volume forecasts and supplier estimates.
  • Oversee gas scheduling and nominations on interstate pipelines.
  • Monitor pipeline maintenance, constraints, and outages affecting supply.
  • Assist in balancing gas supply positions to minimize risk and control costs.
  • Negotiate and manage Gas Purchase and Sales Agreements.
  • Help develop contingency plans for extreme weather and supply disruptions.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support for continuous improvement initiatives.
