About The Position

Our Department of Labor-certified Gas Pipefitter Apprenticeship is a four-year paid training program (a combination of classroom and on-the-job training) that prepares you for a career as a Journey-level Gas Pipefitter! Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will be taught and prepared to safely perform construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of utility gas service lines and mains. As this position is part of a formal Gas Pipefitter Apprenticeship, the pay rate begins at $31.76 and will progress throughout the duration of the apprenticeship based on the pay schedule below (subject to change): Step 1 - $31.76/hr. (1st year) Step 2 - $33.08/hr. (1st year) Step 3 - $34.85/hr. (2nd year) Step 4 - $36.61/hr. (2nd year) Step 5 - $40.14/hr. (3rd year) Step 6 - $41.02/hr. (3rd year) Step 7 - $41.90/hr. (4th year) Step 8 - $42.79/hr. (4th year) Journey Level Turnout - $44.11/hr.

Requirements

  • Experience in a skilled trade or skilled labor capacity is valued - this could be completion of or participation in a previous apprenticeship, construction, manual labor, etc.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License is required - this position requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicles
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is required - the U.S. Department of Labor requires possession of either to participate in a registered apprenticeship program
  • Successful candidates will be self-directed and motivated to advance through the program by obtaining required knowledge, on-the-job training, scheduling evaluations, and passing written testing requirements

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in installing gas mains and service lines, repairs, and maintenance
  • Using hand-operated electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic power tools to assist with the construction and maintenance projects
  • Connecting and inspecting gas mains and service lines
  • Operating gas construction excavation equipment
  • Responding to emergencies and assisting with gas mains and service line repairs
