About The Position

The Gas Operator operates the machines required to trench for natural gas pipelines. The role involves digging safely around underground utilities, installing natural gas pipelines in the ditch, and providing sufficient backfill. The position supports the Line team and works with personnel within the department. The job operates in a field environment and is physically active. It routinely involves bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (including in awkward positions), standing, and twisting. Work may take place in inclement weather, including extreme heat or cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, have the stated visual and distance-judgment abilities, demonstrate precise hand-eye coordination, and identify and distinguish colors.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment.
Ability to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
Precise hand-eye coordination.
Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Nice To Haves

2 or more years of experience operating heavy equipment.
Operator Qualification.
DOT Certified Flagger.
CDL Class A license.

Responsibilities

Operate jobsite equipment safely.
Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on equipment, including checking oil and fluids.
Load trucks safely and without accidents.
Observe pipe laying for safety concerns, such as possible cave-ins.
Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.
Install natural gas pipelines in the ditch and provide sufficient backfill.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
