Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job experience in the gas industry or other related industries or the equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
  • Must possess physical stamina to perform heavy work, climb ladders, scaffolds, and man-lift in all kinds of weather.
  • Operates crane truck and other Company vehicles.
  • Valid Level 1 authorization or appropriate Commercial Driver's License, ability to meet Company driving standards and notify the Company of changes potentially impacting ability to drive.
  • Must pass Construction and Skills Trades (CAST) test battery.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Company's metering procedures and metering equipment.
  • Knowledge of Company's gas procedures and metering equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, changing, repairing and servicing Residential, Industrial and Commercial gas piping, metering and pressure regulating equipment.
  • Installing and removing gas demand meters and recording devices to gather data for special studies.
  • Performing tests for leakage using a combustible gas indicator and soap.
  • Entering meter and service information on standard forms which become permanent Company documents to support customers' accounting records.
  • Working from Advance Meter Orders or Inspection Reports to determine installation specifications.
  • Interpreting prints to order materials, lay out gas piping and fabricate large volume gas measurement installations.
  • Assisting with Inspections and overhaul of gas pressure regulators, relief valves and monitoring configurations on customer’s premises.
  • Using and maintaining power tools, welding equipment, rigging devices, electronic gauges, hydraulic presses and various testing apparatus Operating Company vehicles.
  • Operating computers including MDTs and can manipulate appropriate software programs.
  • Responding and working during emergencies.
  • Gaining Operator Qualifications (OQ) and all other appropriate certifications to progress to a Gas Meter Mechanic B position.
  • Learning applicable codes relating to Company and customers’ service regulators, meters and service lines.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Completing training program for Gas Meter Mechanic Trainee within specific timeframe.
  • Dealing with customers in a pleasant, tactful manner.
  • Successfully completing and maintaining BGE Operator Qualifications associated with job duties as determined by the company.
  • Working toward obtaining basic skills to gain appropriate welding certifications to progress in the Job Family.
