About The Position

This is a skilled role involving the testing, repair, and operation of the Gas Distribution system. Responsibilities include inspecting, installing, testing, and repairing gas meters and regulators, responding to customer complaints, and utilizing software like Enquesta and Servicelink for work orders. The role also involves checking odorant levels, programming meter reading devices, site maintenance, enforcing safety rules and federal regulations, and maintaining records of work performed and equipment tested. The Gas Measurement Technician II level requires two years of experience as a Gas Measurement Technician I and is responsible for the department's annual gas meter change-out program.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED equivalent.
One (1) year of utility maintenance and construction experience (Technician I).
Two (2) years of experience as a Gas Measurement Technician I (Technician II).
Possession of a valid Class D Driver's License.
Various Natural Gas Operator Qualifications pertinent to the position.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge of natural gas and other various safety principles and practices.
Knowledge of City geography.
Knowledge of record keeping principles.
Knowledge of computers and related software applications.
Skill in utilizing and maintaining applicable tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Skill in reading and applying reports, procedures, policies, and manuals.
Skill in providing customer service.
Mechanical aptitude.
Ability to prioritize work.
Ability to apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Ability to use a computer and related software applications.
Ability to prepare operational reports and records.
Ability to monitor and maintain inventory.
Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Responsibilities

Install, adjust, test, and repair natural gas residential regulators and meters.
Inspect, replace, and remove equipment and materials.
Operate systems as required.
Receive and respond to work orders for operational issues.
Handle customer concerns and complaints.
Test new and retired meters to collect data for accuracy.
Calibrate, assemble, and paint meters for reintroduction into the gas distribution system.
Test regulators with a manometer to ensure proper operating pressures.
Build meter setups for future installations.
Prepare, review, and maintain operational records and reports.
Maintain inventory of parts and equipment.
Perform other related work as required.
Complete the department’s annual gas meter change-out program (Technician II).
