Gas Locate Technician - Charlotte NC
About The Position
USIC is seeking individuals to join their Advanced Gas Operations (AGO) division as Gas Locate Technicians. This role is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy independent field work and are looking for a long-term career. USIC is a leader in underground utility damage prevention and advanced infrastructure services. The AGO division provides dedicated service to gas customers, and they are looking for problem solvers who take pride in public safety and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The company offers a quality training program and opportunities for advancement. No prior locating experience is required, but previous industry experience is a plus and may influence starting pay. Technicians work independently in the field using a company-provided vehicle and utilize best-in-class systems for ticket and claims management to ensure clear and complete mark-out services.
Requirements
- Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected.
- Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position).
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
- Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
- Proficiency with technology
- Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints; possess basic math skill to calculate distances.
- Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
Nice To Haves
- Previous outdoor experience is a plus.
- Previous industry experience is a plus and will be considered when determining starting pay.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Use locating equipment to determine the location of gas lines in a designated area and mark the area with paint and flags to prevent damage to utility infrastructure.
- Some hand digging to unearth gas lines may be required.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of underground utility infrastructure.
- Follow all company, client, state, and federal damage prevention guidelines.
- As a technician in our Advanced Gas Operations division, you may locate other utilities in addition to gas lines, depending upon the project to which you are assigned.
