About The Position

USIC is seeking individuals to join their Advanced Gas Operations (AGO) division. This role involves independent field work using locating equipment to identify gas lines and mark them with paint and flags to prevent damage to underground utility infrastructure. Some hand digging may be required. Technicians will develop knowledge of underground utility infrastructure and follow all damage prevention guidelines. Depending on the project, technicians may also locate other utilities. These are daytime, full-time positions with a 48-hour turnaround time, which may include working the day after holidays and some weekends. Overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts (including nights and weekends) may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
  • Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected.
  • Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position).
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time on varying types of terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
  • Proficiency with technology.
  • Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints; possess basic math skill to calculate distances.
  • Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous outdoor experience is a plus.
  • Previous industry experience is a plus and will be considered when determining starting pay.
  • Customer service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use locating equipment to determine the location of gas lines in a designated area and mark the area with paint and flags to prevent damage to utility infrastructure.
  • Perform some hand digging to unearth gas lines.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of underground utility infrastructure.
  • Follow all company, client, state, and federal damage prevention guidelines.
  • Locate other utilities in addition to gas lines, depending upon the project to which you are assigned.
