About The Position

The gas fuser is responsible for fusing gas pipe and saddles, handling builds, locating new gas lines, and performing hand digging. This role requires online training for certifications and completion of courses on fusing qualifications before work can commence. The position involves preparing the worksite, assisting skilled workers, identifying utilities, maintaining equipment, digging trenches, and filling potholes, all while adhering to safety practices. Overtime, including evenings, weekends, and potential travel, may be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 1-2 Years’ experience in transport hauling, equipment operating.
  • Class A CDL Driver License required.
  • Basic Knowledge with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in various physical positions includes lifting heavy objects, walking and standing for long periods of time, and performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to learn and understand utility locates and read construction drawings.
  • Ability to learn and gain knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in telecom work.
  • Ability to learn and gain knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather.
  • When working onsite, it will be required to wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.

Responsibilities

  • Fusing on 2" and 4" Gas Pipe, Fuse Saddles, Gas Tie Ins.
  • Handling as builds for projects.
  • Locating new gas lines.
  • Hand digging.
  • Completing online training to receive certifications and courses on fusing qualifications.
  • Preparing the work site, including cleaning and removing debris and possible hazards.
  • Assisting the skilled worker, such as operator, locator, or foremen in completing their skilled tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Identifying utilities and watching dig crew dig to prevent utility hits.
  • Maintaining every piece of equipment, such as daily maintenance of machines (oil, grease, water, etc.) and restocking trucks with supplies.
  • Digging trenches and filling potholes.
  • Wearing all the appropriate safety apparel and following all established safety practices and procedures.
  • Working overtime, including evening hours, weekends, and possible travel to out-of-town assignments.
