About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking a candidate to support our Distribution Gas Design Organization within our East Twin Cities service territory. This paid internship offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the planning, design, and execution of natural gas distribution projects. Interns will assist with project design activities, field investigations, construction coordination, and stakeholder communication while working closely with designers, engineers, operations personnel, and external customers. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to utility operations, interns will develop technical and professional skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain a deeper understanding of how natural gas infrastructure is designed, maintained, and improved to safely serve our customers and communities.

Requirements

Current student, Sophomore or higher
Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Construction Management, Project Management (construction-focused), Surveying Engineering or Land Surveying , Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Utility Engineering , Industrial Engineering
Potential day travel to work sites, as required
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy
