About The Position

Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure, high-quality language access in 80+ spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies. We are seeking Garifuna Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Garifuna, an indigenous Arawakan language with African and Carib influences, is spoken in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, and is a rare but critical language frequently required in asylum and immigration interviews.

Requirements

Native or near-native fluency in Garifuna and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, NGO, or government preferred).
Strong cultural knowledge of Garifuna communities in Central America and the diaspora.
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.

Any certifications (community, NGO, medical, or court interpreting credentials preferred).

Responsibilities

Provide real-time Garifuna ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and asylum contexts.
Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation needs.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
