About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and care of school grounds and athletic fields. The Gardner II will operate and maintain landscaping equipment, perform basic repairs, and ensure the grounds are safe and presentable. This role requires knowledge of horticultural practices, irrigation systems, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Valid Nevada Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and pest/disease control.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and basic repair techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs on equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in pesticide application.
  • Experience with athletic field maintenance.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as tractors or skid steers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on groundskeeping equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
  • Plant, water, fertilize, and prune trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf.
  • Maintain athletic fields, including lining, mowing, and field preparation for events.
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and making minor repairs.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways, parking lots, and other areas as needed.
  • Dispose of yard waste and debris in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with special projects and events as directed by supervisors.
  • Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.
