About The Position

As a member of the Grounds Department team at Nemacolin, the Gardener performs landscaping tasks in conjunction with the Horticulture staff. The Gardener is charged with learning as much as possible about the care and maintenance of Nemacolin’s gardens. The gardens of our wonderful resort are a statement piece and can have a huge impact on our guests’ visit. Therefore, it is necessary that the first impression sets the stage for enjoyment of our guests.

Requirements

  • Must have current Pennsylvania state license and meet all necessary state requirements.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, good grammar, speaking skills, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to speak English.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Able to perform any task necessary for the maintenance of the resort gardens.
  • Drives and operates motorized vehicles to transport materials and supplies around property.
  • Observes plants, flowers, shrubs and trees around property to assess their condition.
  • Ability to identify pests and diseases of different species of plant material.
  • Communicate with direct supervisor any issues regarding to the resorts plant material.
  • Take action if something undesirable is assed about the plants condition.
  • Ability to weed, rake, dig, and plant trees/shrubs.
  • Cultivation, correct pruning, and installation of plants.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Work in various environments.
  • Understanding of general care procedures for various gardens and greenhouses (Rose Gardens Vegetable Garden, Hydroponic Greenhouse, Annual Flowers, Tropical Plants, Perennials, & more).
