Performs skilled gardening/horticultural tasks and manual work necessary to maintain university properties. Requirements

Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
Highly thorough and dependable
Practical knowledge and/or training in gardening and horticultural practices and procedures
Practical knowledge and/or training in the pruning, trimming, watering fertilization and pest control of lawns, shrubs, trees, etc.
Knowledge of the safe use and operation of hand and power tools used in groundskeeping
Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

Nice To Haves

Associate's degree Horticulture or related field preferred
Intermediate Virginia pesticide license, within 90 days

Responsibilities

Performs skilled gardening/horticultural tasks and manual work necessary to maintain university properties.
Pruning, trimming, watering, fertilization, and pest control of lawns, shrubs, trees, etc.
Safe use and operation of hand and power tools used in groundskeeping.
Exercises behavior in accordance with university policies, the Facilities Missions and statement of Core Values; and complies with safety standards and demonstrates safe work habits.
