This role combines the duties of a Gardener and a Public Works Maintenance Worker. As a Gardener, responsibilities include pruning trees and shrubs for health and safety, turf maintenance, ball field layout, directing unskilled employees, installing and repairing irrigation systems, and applying pesticides and fertilizers. As a Public Works Maintenance Worker, duties involve installing, testing, repairing, or replacing services, lines, valves, meters, hydrants, and backflow devices. This position requires operating various heavy equipment such as forklifts, tractor loaders, tractor mowers, and brush chippers, as well as trucks with or without trailers. Additionally, it involves using a variety of portable power tools and hand tools, performing landscaping and grounds maintenance (mowing, weeding, pruning, litter pickup), and light janitorial and maintenance duties in city restrooms and buildings. Other related duties may be assigned in both capacities.
