About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Gardener II/Landscape Maintenance professional to perform intermediate to advanced landscape maintenance and installation duties. This role is part of the Facilities Services Division within the Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Department and may require work at Site 300 in Tracy, California. The position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience; valid California’s driver’s license.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills, knowledge, and abilities performing a variety of landscape maintenance duties for a landscape company; mowing, trimming, and pruning of shrubs and trees.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems.
  • Experience performing specialized tasks, i.e., high-tree pruning, tree removal, and/or stump grinding.
  • Experience using chemicals and fertilizers common to the trade and to spot spray weeds in the landscape.
  • Experience operating and maintaining standard equipment and tools for gardener tasks such as wood-chippers, aerial platform equipment, tractors, and motor vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to apply Safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience following direction and completing assignments successfully, as well as strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively as a team member while interacting effectively with others.
  • Basic computer skills necessary to complete timekeeping, web-based training, and service requests.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high tree removal greater than 15 ft.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site-wide landscaping and grounds maintenance; mowing, edging, trimming; pruning trees, shrubs, and plants; and installing and maintaining landscaping surfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and repair sprinkler irrigation systems; install new landscape.
  • Assist weed and pest control operator by applying herbicides/pesticides, perform high tree pruning, tree removal, stump grinding and pathway sweeping.
  • Operate and maintain standard equipment and tools used in gardener tasks such as power hand tools, wood chippers, aerial platform trucks, tractors, trenching equipment, motor vehicles, and other equipment common of the landscape trade.
  • Prepare standard reports and additional reports for permits, vehicle inspections, and deficiency forms.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with safety regulations and procedures, fulfilling all integrated safety, security, and property management responsibilities.
  • Provide good customer service and effectively communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
