About The Position

Filoli is seeking a Garden Show & Lighting Production Manager to lead the operational development, installation, and strike of the estate's signature seasonal attractions, including Holiday Lights and Nightfall experiences. This unique role combines a passion for plants with expertise in coordinating large-scale lighting grids, managing vendors, and executing immersive public events. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in show production, lighting/electrical infrastructure, and event logistics, with an understanding of how to work within a historic garden setting.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years conceptualizing, managing, and evaluating complex public events or programs (e.g., public gardens, large attractions, music venues).
  • At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Strong hands-on background in lighting, event production, vendor coordination, and electrical infrastructure.
  • High proficiency with Google Suite/MS Office.
  • Experience with structured organization using Monday.com and RACI frameworks.
  • Ability to lead with empathy, adapt communication style, and foster a culturally competent, inclusive environment.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, climb ladders (up to 16 feet), and scale scaffolding (up to 25 feet).
  • Ability to lift or exert up to 75 lbs occasionally, and 50 lbs frequently.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a dynamic seasonal environment where ear/eye protective gear is sometimes required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and the experience team to ideate and execute property-wide seasonal displays, plant programs, and lighting concepts.
  • Direct the master calendar for major installations.
  • Coordinate lighting production schedules, seasonal staffing, equipment logistics, and vendor workflows across various areas of the estate.
  • Update and enforce property use guidelines (PUGS) for external vendors to ensure safe installation of light shows without harming historic green spaces.
  • Partner with the Director of Horticulture to forecast and manage seasonal budgets, overseeing large-scale procurement for displays and infrastructure.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop a diverse team of horticulture staff, supervisors, and seasonal crews.
