About The Position

Cedars of Marin provides day programs and residential opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Founded in 1919, our exceptional person-centered programs and services have supported individuals in living creative, productive, joyful, and healthy lives for more than a century. Cedars Textile Collaborative (TAC) offers Cedars clients fun, inspiring, and creative day programs. We are currently looking for a compassionate and skilled part-time Garden Instructor to join our Garden Program! As a Garden Instructor, you will work with Cedars clients to plan and support meaningful gardening activities, including hands-on horticulture projects, community-based work opportunities, and skill-building activities. You will help create an environment where individuals can develop confidence, independence, and a sense of accomplishment through gardening and outdoor projects. The TAC Program is set on more than two dozen acres overlooking San Anselmo. This beautiful, remote property includes a community garden, art barn studio space, upgraded kitchen, weaving studio, and more! This position will require some degree of caregiving, to the extent that a participant requires.

Requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or teaching experience highly preferred.
  • The ability to consistently demonstrate patience and compassion.
  • Experience in gardening, landscaping, and yard maintenance.
  • Experience leading, advising, organizing, and motivating groups of people.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to pass an employment physical including a TB test, and to meet the physical requirements of the job.
  • Valid DMV driver's license, a minimum of 3 years of driving experience, and a willingness to drive a passenger van.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications or the willingness to acquire both.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check with the FBI and DOJ.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and support meaningful gardening activities, including hands-on horticulture projects, community-based work opportunities, and skill-building activities.
  • Create an environment where individuals can develop confidence, independence, and a sense of accomplishment through gardening and outdoor projects.
  • Manage a crew of gardeners and work with a team of leaders.
  • Pitch in when/where needed.
