About The Position

Canterbury Court is seeking a Garden Assistant to join their family in the Plant Operations division of their Life Plan Community (LPC). This is a full-time position focused on maintaining the gardens and grounds to ensure consistency and excellence. The role requires hands-on, year-round outdoor work in various weather conditions. The Garden Assistant will work under the supervision of the Garden Manager, but also autonomously with residents and staff. This position may involve additional leadership responsibilities in the Garden Manager's absence.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in landscape maintenance/management as well as working with various types of plants, especially those commonly used in landscapes in the Southeast.
  • Must be willing to do hands-on gardening at all skill levels as well as work with older resident gardeners as needed.
  • At least two years of experience in the landscaping/ gardening field with team engagement preferred.
  • Must be able and willing to perform duties inside and outside when necessary.
  • Must possess leadership and organizational skills and the ability to accept responsibility.
  • Must be patient, honest, and possess good judgment, tact, compassion, and integrity.

Nice To Haves

  • Reasonable horticultural knowledge including plant identification and best practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with landscape management and restoration of all landscaped grounds as directed by the Garden Manager, including but not limited to weeding, pruning/trimming of trees and shrubs, perennial cleaning, deadheading, mulching, etc.
  • Transplant and fertilize small trees and shrubs using a detailed schedule as directed by the Garden Manager.
  • Identify and treat potential pests or diseases.
  • Oversee and coordinate the care of the greenhouse, including cleaning, organizing, and maintaining equipment as needed.
  • Work with resident gardeners on their independent gardens as directed by the Garden Manager.
