About The Position

This internationally recognized garden is like no other. If you care about the environment, have a deep appreciation for nature, prefer to work outdoors, and have a good sense of humor, you might be just the person we are looking for. This is a part-time position with the potential to become full-time.

Requirements

Prior experience in gardening, landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor maintenance preferred (willing to train the right person)
Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round
Ability to follow directions, work independently, and stay on task
Strong attention to detail and respect for plants, wildlife, and the environment
Reliable transportation to Jeffersonton, VA preferred
Must be able to follow all health and safety policies and guidelines, including required COVID-19 vaccination
Must be able to frequently move and transport materials and tools weighing up to and including 50 pounds throughout the shift
Must be able to constantly position self to kneel, squat, crouch, and work at ground level for extended periods
Must be able to perform strenuous physical work and sustained outdoor activity as required by seasonal needs
Must be able to work outside year-round in outdoor weather conditions
Must be able to communicate with supervisors, follow directions, and exchange accurate information

Responsibilities

Perform routine garden maintenance including mulching, pruning, mowing, trimming, fertilizing, planting, and weeding
Support seasonal garden care needs throughout the year, including general upkeep and touch-up work
Care for small ponds, including basic cleaning and maintenance support
Repair and maintain garden borders and edges to keep grounds tidy and safe
Maintain garden tools and equipment, keeping items organized, clean, and ready for use
Track inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed
Fill and maintain bird feeders and birdbaths as part of ongoing grounds care
Follow assigned work plans and complete additional garden-related tasks as needed
