About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking Garbage Truck-Collection Helpers in Shelton, CT. This is a year-round, steady work opportunity with an early start time (4:00 am or 5:00 am) and a Monday-Friday schedule, with some Saturdays. The role involves collecting and loading refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle, primarily by hand. Helpers are not permitted to operate company vehicles unless designated as a CDL Helper. The position reports to the Operations Manager onsite and is also supervised by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. IWS is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services, committed to quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Requirements

Must meet physical standards: constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles that weigh approximately 50-75+ lbs.
Must be able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the work day.
Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
Applicants must have a history of steady employment.
Applicants must have a history of showing up and being on-time for work every day.
Position requires a team-player attitude.

Nice To Haves

Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle.
Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of vehicle.
Learn garbage routes to better assist driver.
Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
