About The Position

The Garage Mechanic is a fulltime position. Mechanics will diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul trucks and all types of diesel engines. Must provide your own tools. This role involves performing duties according to the Company's safety standards, installing and repairing industrial and commercial refrigerating systems, and using a variety of hand and power tools. The mechanic will inspect and maintain various vehicle systems, perform routine maintenance, and test drive vehicles to diagnose issues. Communication with the Supervisor regarding problems is essential, as is obeying traffic laws. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Must provide your own tools.
  • Driver's License required.
  • 3yrs of Diesel Mechanic experience/and or training required.
  • High school diploma or GED; 2 yrs or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/training with Thermo King or Carrier refrigeration not required but preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties by following the Company’s safety standards.
  • Install and repair industrial and commercial refrigerating systems.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press and jacks and hoists.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor by phone.
  • Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned by the manager.
