About The Position

The Garage Diesel Mechanic is responsible for servicing and repairing diesel tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units. This role involves a full line of service work, troubleshooting reported problems, conducting state-approved inspections, overhauling diesel engines, and test driving units to ensure repair accuracy. The mechanic will follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, and service manuals, complete written work reports, and adhere to all safety programs and laws. The position also requires a willingness to be trained in various mechanical skills and subject matters.

Requirements

  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Welding and soldering skills.
  • Basic skills in troubleshooting electrical problems and reading wiring diagrams.
  • Basic working knowledge and/or experience of diesel engine repair and overhaul.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Coachable and willing to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to work in very hot (more than 100 degrees) and very cold (20 degrees below zero) environments for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in a very wet and humid environment for extended periods.
  • Must be able to bend, crawl, climb, squat, and work on items both above the head and at ground level during repair and maintenance operations.
  • Must keep work area safe and clean.
  • Must work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Minimum Age: 21, as per Federal D.O.T. regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • C.F.C. Refrigeration Type II Certification
  • Diesel Refrigeration repair experience
  • Ability to arc weld and solder.

Responsibilities

  • Completing written work reports.
  • Adhering to all safety programs and laws.
  • Being willing to be trained in various mechanical skills and subject matters.
