About The Position

Under general supervision, this position assists in providing regulatory oversight to the Tohono O'odham Nation's gaming operations. This involves ensuring compliance with the Tribal Gaming Ordinance Regulations, Tribal/State Compact and its appendices, and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA). The role supports compliance testing activities, maintenance of vital information, records management, and gaming device inventory. This position may also assume the duties of a Gaming Inspector when required. Work is typically reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks, and major tasks are covered by instructions or procedures, with unusual situations referred to a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or closely related field and one year work experience in gaming inspection or compliance; or equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience.
  • Must be certified by the Arizona Department of Gaming and/or Licensed by the Tohono O'odham Nation before hire.
  • Must demonstrate seventy percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math.
  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of tribal gaming operations, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Tribal/State Compact technical standards for installation and repair of gaming devices.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Johnson Act.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for shipment of gaming devices, gaming software, and gaming equipment.
  • Skill in writing reports and correspondences.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
  • Skill in testing gaming devices for conformation to requirements and standards.
  • Skill in conducting gaming device audits and identifying compliance problems.
  • Skill in applying investigative techniques and practices.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing and maintaining documents regarding gaming device installations, re-installations, modifications, removals, transfers, and storage in conjunction with documents received from the Nation's gaming facility operator, as required by the Compact and its Appendices.
  • Assists with documenting and maintaining a current listing of gaming devices and software approved for operation in the Nation's gaming facilities.
  • Files and maintains records on installation, repair, and replacement of gaming devices and on-line monitoring systems.
  • Monitors to ensure Gaming Device logic board access keys, security tape, and sensitive items that control the outcome of the game are safeguarded.
  • Maintains testing schedules to ensure Gaming Devices are in compliance pursuant to technical standards as prescribed by the Compact and Appendices.
  • Conducts investigations, as assigned by the Inspector Project Manager, into suspected violations of the Tribal Gaming Ordinance, Tribal/State Gaming Compact, and/or its Appendices pertaining to the integrity of games.
  • Assists in the preparation and dissemination of the Self-Exclusion list and State Intelligence Bulletins to appropriate casino departments and other regulatory or law enforcement agencies as directed.
  • Compiles information and documents problems reported by Gaming staff regarding computer and program applications utilized in the Gaming Office.
  • Prepares and disseminates the State Self Exclusion list, State Intelligence Bulletins, Law Enforcement notices, and Regulator notices to the appropriate casino department and other Gaming Office personnel when the Project Manager is unavailable.
  • Verifies hold percentages are in compliance with Tribal/State Compact requirements and gaming manufacturer specifications.
  • Performs independent investigations at the direction of the Project Manager pertaining to allegations of Compact violations regarding manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors of gaming devices and equipment.
  • Monitors receipt and release of all program chips and Flashcards to Inspectors and ensures the performance of random checks of chips and software.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.
