About The Position

The Gaming Enforcement Agent is responsible for conducting statewide overt and covert criminal investigations within Ohio casinos and illegal casinos. This includes performing surveillance using audio, video, visual, and photographic methods, and preparing detailed investigative reports for criminal and regulatory violations. The role also involves authoring search warrants, compiling intelligence reports, interviewing victims, witnesses, and subjects, and collecting and preserving evidence. Agents prepare criminal cases for prosecution, including grand jury and courtroom testimony, and serve as a liaison to other law enforcement agencies. Additionally, they verify casino and gaming equipment for compliance and assist individuals with problem gaming by enrolling them in the State of Ohio Voluntary Exclusion Program.

Requirements

  • 3.5 years law enforcement or equivalent military law enforcement experience; OPOTC; & valid driver’s license.
  • OR completion of associate core program in criminal justice, social sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology, criminology), or other field commensurate with job duties; 2 years experience in law enforcement; Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification (OPOTC); & valid driver’s license.
  • Successful background check by appointing authority, which includes a polygraph.
  • Submission to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use (an applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per section 123:1-76-09 of the Ohio Administrative Code).

Responsibilities

  • Conducting statewide overt and covert criminal investigations in Ohio casinos and illegal casinos.
  • Conducting surveillance (audio, video, visual and photographic).
  • Preparing and submitting detailed investigative reports for criminal and/or regulatory violations.
  • Authoring and preparing detailed search warrants for presentation to the proper court jurisdiction.
  • Compiling intelligence information and preparing detailed reports for submission to internal and external intelligence personnel.
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses and subjects for criminal and regulatory investigations.
  • Collecting, preserving and properly securing evidence for processing.
  • Preparing criminal cases for presentation to Prosecutors up to and including testimony in the Grand Jury and Courtroom.
  • Serving as liaison to and works with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Verifying casino/gaming equipment for compliance with Commission rules and regulations.
  • Providing assistance with problem gaming by enrolling individuals in the State of Ohio Voluntary Exclusion Program.
