About The Position

Writopia Lab, an award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking part-time RPG enthusiasts to serve as Game Leaders (GLs) or Dungeon Masters (DMs) for children and teens aged 6-18. The role involves running Dungeons & Dragons 5e and other role-playing games in-person at their Upper West Side lab in Manhattan. The program utilizes tools like Zoom, Roll20, and D&D Beyond. Writopia Lab's mission is to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking through creative writing and gaming. The summer sessions are week-long, three hours a day, Monday through Friday afternoons. GLs are expected to commit to four or more weeks between late June and late August, not necessarily consecutively.

Requirements

  • Three years as a Game Leader or Dungeon Master.
  • Proficiency running Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
  • Experience working with kids and/or teens in a creative environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with other RPG systems such as Avatar Legends, Kids on Brooms, and Esper Genesis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop social and emotional life skills through gaming.
  • Serve as a fun, funny, warm, and engaging camp counselor figure.
  • Act as an adventurous creative who loves role-playing games and inventive storytelling.
  • Meet players at their current skill level, providing instruction and support for new players.
  • Deliver a next-level gaming experience for experienced players.
  • Run provided adventures and campaigns.
  • Utilize provided dice, battlemats, and other gaming materials.

Benefits

  • Pay: $25 per hour for leading games; $17 per hour for administrative tasks.
