About The Position

The Gallery Manager is a key front-of-house leader responsible for delivering an exceptional visitor experience within our gallery and auction environment. This role oversees the exhibition staff, ensures operational efficiency during public previews and events, and supports client-facing functions across departments. The ideal candidate is confident, organized, and proactive, with the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced, client-centric setting. This role reports to the Client Services Manager.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role within an auction house, gallery, luxury retail, or creative environment.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience overseeing staff and workflows.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Full-time availability: Thursday–Monday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Summer hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
  • Comfortable in a client-facing, high-traffic environment.
  • Capable of handling keyholder responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of art, art history, or the auction industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and manage exhibition staff.
  • Property collection outreach and shipping logistics assistance.
  • Work with Client Services team for post & pre-sale customer outreach.
  • Greet all clients and visitors in a warm, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Assign floor coverage to ensure optimal guest engagement throughout the gallery.
  • Coordinate staff breaks, track attendance, and oversee timesheet accuracy.
  • Manage reception desk operations, including phone coverage and guest greetings.
  • Uphold a welcoming, professional reception area with catalogues, signage, and guest materials properly maintained.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Client Services team as needed across all functions.
  • Assist with payments, property releases, bid processing, and bid increases.
  • Act as a keyholder and ensure adherence to security protocols.
  • Monitor Client Services email inboxes and respond as appropriate.
  • Provide coverage during staff lunches and vacations.
  • Attend evening exhibition previews and special events as required.
  • Ensure all client meeting rooms are well-stocked and tidy.
