About The Position

The Vancouver Art Gallery is seeking a Gallery Educator to support the development, delivery, and facilitation of educational programs for families, children, and youth. This role will contribute to a dynamic slate of family tours, workshops, and camp programs that foster meaningful engagement with the Gallery’s exhibitions and collections. Working primarily within Family Programs, the Gallery Educator will collaborate with colleagues across the Public Engagement and Learning team to shape and deliver ongoing programming that supports the Gallery’s commitment to lifelong learning. Through tours, camps, and hands-on workshops, this role helps introduce visitors of all ages to historic, modern, and contemporary art, art history, creative practice, and diverse forms of cultural production.

Requirements

  • Completed Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary education in Arts, Humanities, Education or a related field.
  • Relevant experience delivering educational or public-facing programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence facilitating tours, workshops and programs for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain respectful, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
  • A collaborative, adaptable approach and comfort working in public-facing environments.
  • Strong familiarity with webinar related equipment and systems such as ZOOM, MS teams, Facebook and Instagram Live.
  • Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid work permit.

  • Experience delivering educational programs within the visual arts or a museum setting.

Responsibilities

  • Research material relevant to exhibitions and proposed audiences and delivery of Digital and In Person Gallery programs.
  • Assist in writing and editing scripts as directed and provide input for the development of new programs, tours, and activities.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to develop and deliver family tours and workshops both virtual and in gallery live.
  • Conduct tours and speak to the public, provide information, and respond to questions, as assigned (Both virtual and in person).
  • Assist with logistics of delivering programs both digital and in person programs.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment for programs as directed.
  • Provide guidance and coordination of volunteers and assist them in helping with the delivery of tours and workshop activities.
  • Assist in ensuring the smooth running of events i.e., signage, scheduling, etc.
  • Support the Gallery’s overall goals towards a cohesive brand voice and identity.

Benefits

  • Pay Grade 15: Step 1: $24.49 per hour, plus a percentage in lieu of benefits.
