About The Position

Syndeo Staffing is hiring several part-time, temporary Gallery Attendants for the Wichita Art Museum. The role combines visitor service with surveillance and security duties. Gallery Attendants interact positively with visitors to museum galleries and programs and help prevent disorderly conduct and damage to artwork or museum property. Attendants work independently and use discretion and judgment in responding to situations. They may also coordinate with other attendants to carry out daily security functions. Flexible scheduling is required, including evening and weekend museum hours and events.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Comfortable interacting professionally with members of the public.
Able to walk for extended periods while remaining quiet and observant.
Able to recognize hazardous events and respond quickly and appropriately.
Able to use and comprehend a logbook accurately.
Basic understanding of security system operations.
Able to understand and follow instructions, rules, and procedures.
Familiarity with basic life safety methods and regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Strong self-management and organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate as part of a team to complete projects.
Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Able to push a cart with up to 60 pounds of resistance.
Able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, and walk for more than two hours at a time.

Nice To Haves

One or more years of security experience in a museum, zoo, or nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities

Provide direction and information to the public.
Monitor museum property, especially artwork on display, to protect it from fire, theft, and vandalism.
Conduct daily superficial examinations of displayed artwork and record or report evidence of damage or deterioration.
Maintain discipline in and around the building and grounds.
Perform crowd control as needed.
Contact maintenance staff as needed.
Contact law enforcement as needed.
Open and close the Museum.
Operate and monitor electronic security systems and cameras.
Direct visitors during evacuations in emergencies.
Ensure adequate lighting is provided when and where needed.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
