About The Position

The Gallery Attendant reports to the Visitor Experience Coordinator and supports daily museum operations by providing a welcoming and engaging visitor experience while helping ensure the safety and security of exhibitions and collections. Gallery Attendants also serve as ambassadors for the museums by promoting a positive and inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Reliable, punctual, and detail oriented
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
• Ability to engage comfortably with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Willingness to learn gallery procedures and exhibition information
• Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware
• Work study eligibility may be a factor

Responsibilities

• Opening, monitoring, and closing gallery spaces in Old College, Mechanical Hall, and the Mineralogical Museum
• Greeting visitors and answering general questions about exhibitions
• Monitoring visitor behavior to protect objects on display
• Conducting routine gallery walkthroughs
• Maintaining visitor attendance records
• Reporting concerns or maintenance issues to staff
• Adhering to all museum safety and security procedures
