About The Position

The primary focus of this role is to monitor CMA’s galleries and ensure a positive visitor experience while maintaining the wellbeing of people and art. Gallery Associates greet guests, share information, answer questions, provide directions, uphold policies, protect art, and make CMA a fun and safe place to visit.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; great awareness of both verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Willingness and capacity to acquire new skills and knowledge; intellectually curious.
  • Ability to assert oneself and speak confidently; can manage crowds in a professional manner.
  • Ability to self-manage time and follow a daily schedule.
  • Responsible, dependable, trustworthy, cooperative, flexible, friendly, and a positive attitude.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality, critical thinking, and good judgement.
  • Candidates must be able to work at both CMA locations during regular operating hours: 1. 480 East Broad St. – 10am to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and 10am to 9pm Thursday. 2. 632 North Park St. – 2pm-8pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
  • Ideal candidates are also available for event hours as early as 8am or as late as 12pm some days, especially weekends.
  • This position does require maintaining a dress code and a clean, professional personal appearance.
  • Staff members must have the ability to be physically present (stationary and mobile), attentive, and engaged for extended periods of time while monitoring galleries.
  • Must be able to deliver understandable instructions to assist visitors even in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to read, communicate, and comprehend.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hospitality, security, retail, education, or visitor/customer service a strong plus.

  • Maintaining the wellbeing of people and art in the museum.
  • Being knowledgeable of all museum policies and explaining those policies to others in a direct, friendly, and respectful manner.
  • Approaching and correcting visitors who are not following museum policies and offering solutions that maintain a positive visitor experience.
  • Circulating through your designated space being attentive and situationally aware.
  • Communicating and collaborating regularly with other museum employees.
  • Being respectful and professional, approaching situations with a willingness to help.
  • Having a team-focused attitude and supporting a cooperative environment.
  • Proactively communicating any issues using a two-way radio (walkie-talkie) as instructed.
  • Participating in meetings and trainings as scheduled; understanding and using the information communicated in those meetings and trainings.
  • Answering a multi-extension telephone system respectfully and professionally.
  • Responding efficiently and correctly to a wide variety of museum-related questions by maintaining a thorough understanding of CMA programs, groups, and departments.
  • Maintaining confidential information or restricted gallery access.
  • Using a computer-based system to properly process cash and credit card transactions.
  • Entering and tracking information accurately.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.
