About The Position

This is a skilled labor position that is directly responsible for becoming certified and proficient in performing various types of fusion of components for the Plastics Fabrication Department. The role requires understanding and adherence to safety procedures, work procedures as set forth by ISO, ASTM, and DOT documentation, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints. The technician will be responsible for performing fusions on various diameters and SDRs of PE Pipe and fittings, including manual butt fusion, electrofusion, or socket fusion. Maintaining quality standards, meeting production standards, and supporting EH&S programs are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within manufacturing environment.
  • Required to be or become certified in various plastic fusion processes (manual butt fusion, electrofusion, or socket fusion) within 90 days.
  • At least 45 days of manual PE fusion experience.
  • Thorough, accurate, and works error free.
  • Able to select the proper component parts required for a work center.
  • Advanced knowledge of all fusion machines in the department.
  • Must be able to understand and utilize measurement tools that are specific to that area or product.
  • Must have good attendance record and employment in good standing (no final warning or suspension).
  • May not have 3 or more non-conformances during a rolling 12 month period to qualify for this role.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. in a safe manner.
  • Clarity of vision and the ability to focus on a fast and repetitious operation for extended period of time.
  • Safety toed shoes required.
  • Eye protection required.
  • Must be capable of maintaining a 40-hour workweek and working overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motion. Examples: walking, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Hearing protection required.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow all safety procedures.
  • Understand and follow work procedures as set forth by all ISO, ASTM, and DOT documentation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints whenever required by operation.
  • Be certified to perform fusions on various diameters and SDRs of PE Pipe and fittings. Fusions include up to three (3) of any combination of: manual butt fusion, electrofusion, or socket fusion.
  • Pass annual fusion re-certification examinations in order to remain qualified for this position.
  • Clean, label and box products in department as needed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Meet or exceed production standards of all work centers daily.
  • Maintain quality standards on all products daily including in process testing log sheets.
  • Assemble components as required by work instructions and SOPs.
  • Verify that all fusion equipment is in good condition and performing as designed.
  • Support and participate in the overall EH&S programs.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental, and OHSAS 18001 certification requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
