About The Position

Set up, operate, or tend heat treating, testing, and finishing equipment, including furnaces, temper ovens, washers, hardness testing, various gauges, black oxide, vibratory tumbler, belt sanders, straightening clamps, gas generator, and other miscellaneous type tooling-measuring devices.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up, operate, or tend heat treating, testing, and finishing equipment.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining heat treat equipment, including furnaces, tempering equipment, and quench tanks.
  • Skill in monitoring and adjusting furnace controls, flow rates, and temperatures.
  • Experience with operating and maintaining gas generators and ESA operating systems.
  • Ability to load and unload parts and move materials using a hand truck.
  • Capability to perform quality checks, including hardness tests and measurements.
  • Experience with routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
  • Knowledge of proper startup and shutdown procedures for heat treat equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret heat treat prints and work instructions.
  • Skill in documenting production, quality, and time records.
  • Ability to identify and report unusual conditions, defective materials, or faulty equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a variety of heat treat equipment, including Lindberg and All-Case furnaces, tempering equipment, and quench tanks to perform straight hardening, case hardening, and black oxide processes.
  • Monitor and adjust furnace controls, flow rates (e.g., Endothermic Atmosphere, Enriching Gas), and temperatures according to established procedures and part specifications.
  • Operate and maintain gas generators and an ESA operating system, including performing periodic maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Load and unload parts by hand or with a charge car and operate a hand truck to move materials to different stations.
  • Perform quality checks on parts, including quench hardness tests, Rockwell hardness testing, and measuring for size and out-of-roundness to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including cleaning furnaces and tanks, and conduct daily equipment inspections.
  • Execute proper startup and shutdown procedures for all heat treat equipment, generators, and washers, including emergency and weekend shutdowns.
  • Read and interpret heat treat prints and work instructions to determine the correct process for each part.
  • Document production, quality, and time records, and maintain accurate instrument charts.
  • Identify and report unusual conditions, defective materials, or faulty equipment operation to a supervisor or team leader.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.
