On the RA unit, the operator will oversee melt and determine when to atomize melt to minimize loss due to malfunctions. Coordinate efforts of crew to make sure operations are done in a timely fashion and minimize turn-around time. The operator will operate the rotary atomization furnace, isolate problems in the furnace system, and perform routine maintenance tasks on the furnace and associated equipment. Work from written and verbal instructions to set up and operate the furnace through various cycles. Isolate furnace system problems and remove and replace malfunctioning components. Check charge to make sure material agrees with requirements and records. Inspect furnace, crucible, condition of fittings, tundish assembly, and other critical areas to ensure conditions do not exist which might jeopardize run. Work with crew to make connections, secure flange bolts, and other hook-up work necessary for startup. May be necessary to prepare crucibles for the next run, also may be tasked to clean atomization unit when necessary. Monitor performance of furnace and associated equipment and institute corrective action to prevent or minimize major breakdowns. Isolate various sections of systems to determine where the problem is located and work with crew to perform tasks such as tightening gaskets, changing oil, and removing and replacing various parts of the furnace and associated equipment.
