This role is primarily responsible for servicing the ladle metallurgy station, the casting machine billet run-out area, ladles, electric arc furnace, and the brick crew operations. The work involves simple routine tasks that are physical in nature, requiring care to safely use heavy tools. Responsibilities include digging out ladles, shoveling materials, taking temperatures, obtaining samples, and operating forklifts and bobcats. The position also involves assisting with alloy and slag additions, lancing heats, removing refractories from used ladles and tundishes, cleaning the furnace and surrounding areas, assisting with material hookups and unhooking, torch cutting scrap billets, switching scrap, and cross-training in other melt shop jobs. The role also requires inspecting and reporting faulty materials, environmental hazards, and improper equipment operation, as well as maintaining the work area and equipment.
