About The Position

We are looking for a Funeral Services Liaison to strengthen relationships between funeral homes, families, and public health partners while enhancing support for grieving families. This position will be a 6–12-month contract, full-time, and remote. Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.

Requirements

  • Experience in funeral service, mortuary science, public health, social work, or related field
  • Knowledge of grief processes, trauma-informed practices, and family support services
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse partners
  • Ability to develop training materials and deliver presentations to professional audiences
  • Familiarity with death certificate processes or vital records
  • Ability to work collaboratively across agencies and community organizations
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
  • Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funeral homes across Indiana to improve support for families and enhance public health connections
  • Serve as the primary liaison between IDOH, funeral homes, mortuary professionals, coroners, healthcare systems, and families/communities
  • Lead or support training efforts for funeral service professionals on topics such as grief and bereavement, resources, trauma-informed care, and effective family communication
  • Strengthen training for funeral homes completing death certificates, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to state requirements
  • Develop educational materials, guidance documents, and continuing education opportunities for funeral service professionals and public health partners
  • Enhance partnerships between death care professionals and statewide fatality review teams, promoting collaboration and shared learning
  • Build connections between funeral homes and grief support organizations, including LOSS teams and other community-based support networks
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on funeral home processes to inform and support efforts that benefit funeral homes, families, and communities
