About The Position

The General Manager position is responsible for day-to-day operations, leading various departments including Human Resources/Accounting, Building Grounds and Vehicles, Funeral Directors/Arrangers, Removal Staff, EDRS, Staff Associates, Preparation Room Staff, and Night Staff. The role involves holding staff accountable for completing company assignments, including compliance with OSHA, FTC, and harassment prevention. The General Manager oversees all team members participating in services, ensuring they understand their roles and professionally represent the company. This position also leads labor-management components such as scheduling, labor margins, overtime, and timecards. Maintaining excellent customer service standards, working with managers and supervisors, and acting as a community ambassador are key. The General Manager interacts directly with client families, handles all aspects of services, and ensures an excellent customer service experience. Promoting community relationships, presenting service and merchandise options, and conducting staff meetings are also responsibilities. The role contributes to overall efficiency through effective communication, maintaining accurate client files, adhering to payment policies, and overseeing facility management, including vehicles, building, and grounds maintenance. Financial management includes vendor relationships, accounts payable and receivable, and labor management, along with overseeing staff schedules and vacations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in hospitality, hotel management, or business.
  • A minimum of 4 to 9 years of combined hospitality experience and business management.
  • Demonstrates business/management, customer service, and good managerial skills with staff.
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of funeral services.
  • Ability to lead and support customer satisfaction.
  • Works cohesively with staff and builds strong relationships with all staff to give excellent customer service with empathy and kindness.
  • Valid state issued funeral director license a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Staff Leadership: Recruits, trains, and manages licensed funeral directors and funeral arrangers, preparation room staff, building, vehicles staff, funeral services, evening staff, and staff associates/EDRS personnel.
  • Financial Management: Oversees the location's Profit & Loss (P&L), monitors annual budgets, and works with President annually to determine pricing for services and merchandise.
  • Operations & Compliance: Ensures all services run on schedule and that the business remains fully compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., permits, death certificates, and FTC rules).
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of one funeral home and two branch offices.
  • Ensures all staff understand their roles and professionally represent the company during services.
  • Manages labor-management components including scheduling, labor margins, overtime, and timecards.
  • Maintains excellent customer service standards and works with managers and supervisors.
  • Acts as a community ambassador and develops team members to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Interacts directly with client families, handling all aspects of services.
  • Promotes and builds community relationships.
  • Ensures families are presented with all service and merchandise options.
  • Conducts weekly staff huddles/updates and quarterly full staff meetings.
  • Maintains accurate and timely client files and adheres to payment policies.

  • Oversees balanced staff schedules and vacations.
