This position performs duties and responsibilities associated with the body donor program and provides for the needs of educational, service, and research programs. The Funeral Director II assists families in regard to donation of remains to the Medical Center's body donor program. They make removals from, and deliveries to public and private institutions using a specially equipped, University-supplied vehicle. This role designates appropriate uses of donor remains in accordance with rules and regulations pursuant to the provisions of the Public Health Law of the State of New York and the National Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards of the United States Inc. The Funeral Director II receives donations and completes death certificates, files death certificates with the Bureau of Vital Statistics on behalf of the family and the University. They obtain burial or cremation permits as required. This role maintains records of all committed and received remains as well as ultimate disposal records. The Funeral Director II signs and returns each New York State burial, transit, or cremation permits to the Bureau of Vital Statistics as necessary. They perform embalming procedures as approved. Cremates remains and arranges for return of the ashes to families, or ultimate disposal as programmatically defined. Operates and maintains an embalming laboratory, cadaver storage facility, and crematorium. Maintains Gross Anatomy laboratories. Provides services and supplies specimens to Medical Center programs or associated educational, service or research institutions. Works closely with department heads regarding medical post-graduate training programs and professional medical staff skills maintenance activities. Maintains vehicle records for service and use. Other duties as assigned.
